Bill embodies the SmithGroupJJR ethic of blending science and art. A former advertising agency art director trained as a commercial artist, Bill went back to school to obtain a degree in civil engineering. As the Waterfront Practice Leader, Bill's design and coastal engineering expertise is reflected in many of the firm's most significant waterfront projects. He takes particular pleasure, he says, in "coming up with a design that totally knocks the socks off of our client, and knowing we have the ability to get it designed, engineered and constructed." For someone who spends his career happily focused on water, Bill is equally enamored with the air. A commercial pilot and certified flight instructor, he flies himself and SmithGroupJJR partners to project locations. He's also the fellow responsible for those handsome aerial photos clients see of SmithGroupJJR projects.
